Renowned Spanish women’s football icon, Amoso, has officially filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, accusing the President of the Spanish Football Association, Lubiaris, of sexual assault. The incident in question allegedly took place during the Women’s World Cup final award ceremony held late last month, where Amoso suspects that she was forcibly kissed by Luis Rubiales, the President of the association.
In response to these serious allegations, Spanish prosecutors have initiated a preliminary investigation and granted Amoso a 15-day window to formally accuse Rubiales of sexual assault. In a significant development, the 33-year-old striker personally submitted the lawsuit at the Spanish National Prosecutor’s Office headquarters in Madrid on Wednesday afternoon. It is anticipated that Spanish courts will soon initiate a full-fledged criminal investigation against Rubiales, which could potentially lead to his prosecution.
Despite Rubiales claiming that the kiss was consensual, Amoso vehemently asserts that it was never consensual. As a consequence of these disturbing events, FIFA has suspended Rubiales for a period of 90 days. Additionally, an overwhelming majority of Spanish players, including 23 members of the women’s World Cup champions, have publicly stated that they will refuse to represent the national team if Rubiales continues to serve as the president of the Spanish Football Association.
