An Indian transgender couple, who became a hot topic on social media by releasing a ‘husband-filled period picture’, welcomed a new life.

On the 7th (local time), the British BBC presented the story of a transgender couple, Ziya Pabal (21) and Zahad (23). Pabal was born male, but now identifies as female. Conversely, Zahard was born female, but now considers himself male.

A year and a half ago they both decided to have a baby. The couple, who were in transition, said they stopped taking hormone treatments to have a baby. Zahard, who was undergoing a gender transition from female to male, was able to conceive because her ovaries and uterus had not yet been removed. Because of this, Zahard was able to take ‘a picture of her husband’s due date’.

This photo, which Pabal posted on his Instagram, became a hot topic in the Indian community. The number of ‘likes’ on the photo exceeded 20,000, and more than 1,000 congratulatory comments were also posted. Actress S Negha, a trans woman, commented on the photo, saying, “Even transgender people deserve a family.”

“This is very rare in India,” said Pabal and Zahard, “As far as we know (in the Indian community) there are no transgender people who identify themselves as their biological parents.”

“It is estimated that there are around 2 million transgender people in India,” says the BBC. “In 2014, the Supreme Court of India ruled that they have the same rights as everyone else.” “However, they still struggle to access education and health care and often face prejudice.”

They both gave birth to a baby on the 8th, about a month earlier than the original due date. On this day, Pabal posted a picture holding the baby’s little hand on Instagram and said, “The baby was born safely at 9:37 this morning with a loud cry.” The baby’s gender and name have not been revealed.
