Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who is on a business trip to Europe, announced on the 18th (local time) that he would build the 2nd Sejong Center for the Performing Arts at the southern end of Mapo Bridge in Yeouido Park while visiting the Elves. Philharmonic in Hamburg, Germany. The Elf Philharmonic opened in 2017 as a multipurpose performance hall made by remodeling a warehouse facing the sea. It has complex facilities such as a concert hall, hotel, spa and restaurant.

On this day, Mayor Oh said, “I plan to make the 2nd Sejong Center for the Performing Arts a multi-purpose venue that can be used for various purposes such as concerts and musicals.” We’ll make it so you can enjoy the scenery without looking at it.”

The 2nd Sejong Center for the Performing Arts will be built in the southern part of the Mapo Bridge in Yeouido Park, close to the Han River. A grand theater with 2,000 seats, a small theater with 400 seats, restaurants, and cultural education facilities will be built. An observatory overlooking the Han River will also be installed, which citizens who do not watch performances can use for free. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to connect the 2nd Sejong Center for the Performing Arts so that users of ‘Seoul Port’, which will be built on the side of Yeouinaru Station on the nearby subway line 5, can use it.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government also announced plans to remodel Yeouido Park into an urban cultural park where cultural facilities and green spaces harmonize. The city decided to create a lawn and garden square in Yeouido Park, and build an underground pedestrian road connecting East Yeouido and West Yeouido, which had been disconnected due to Yeouido Park.

For the construction of the 2nd Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and the Yeouido Park remodeling project, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to hold a design competition in the first half of this year and establish a business plan after listening to citizens’ opinions. The aim is to start construction in 2026.
