Windows Central, an overseas tech site, has released a video of a special version of Windows “Andromeda OS” developed by Microsoft for folding smartphones such as “Surface Duo” running on “Lumia 950”. ..
The Surface Duo (and its successor, Surface Duo 2), sold by Microsoft in 2020, uses Android as the operating system. The Lumia 950 is a Windows 10 smartphone released in 2015.
This time, the Lumia 950 is installed with the preview version of Andromeda OS released in 2018. According to Windows Central, Andromeda OS was never re-developed after the plan was postponed in 2018. Therefore, the interface and functions of the OS released this time are incomplete.
Interestingly, on the other hand, it has also been confirmed that the interface and functions developed in Andromeda OS have been taken over by Surface Duo. For example, date and time layouts on the lock screen, multitasking interfaces and animations in dual screen mode.
As mentioned earlier, the Andromeda OS plan has been discontinued and will not be launched for smart devices in the future. On the other hand, the ideas cultivated during the development of Andromeda OS will be utilized in the Surface Duo series and future Windows.
