Crystal Palace star Andros Townsend says his team’s 4-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend was a “false result”, and says the Blues still don’t have enough to catch Liverpool or Manchester City. in the race for the Premier League title.
Palace held out in the first 45 minutes against Frank Lampard’s side at Stamford Bridge but fell apart in the second half, with a string of mistakes leading to a hefty defeat.

Townsend admitted that the Palace was hoping to capture some of Chelsea’s new starts but was surprised at the result.
“I think it was a false result – it wasn’t 4-0 – but they surprised us,” Townsend told talkSPORT.
“They had a lot of new players and we were expecting to catch them cold, catch them early in their Premier League career.
“We did it in the first half, but in the second their quality made itself felt and they are a team that will arrive right there at the end of the season.”
Townsend says that while he expects Chelsea to challenge artists like Liverpool for the Premier League title, he doesn’t think they’ll actually be able to usurp Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
The Reds have started the season perfectly with three wins in their first three games, but despite a 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, Townsend thinks they will still finish ahead of Lampard’s side next May.
“I think it will be a little closer, but I still think Liverpool and City are far ahead of the other teams,” he added.
“I think there will be more teams chasing them and they will be grouped together; it will be interesting who takes third and fourth place.
“But I can’t look beyond Liverpool and Man City this season.”
