However, when it became known that the horse had died during the filming process, the controversy was fueled. Angry viewers poured out criticism towards the drama, and there was even a public petition to the Blue House asking for the program to be abolished. In addition, celebrities such as actors Ko So-young, Kim Hyo-jin, and Gong Hyo-jin also expressed their uncomfortable stance on the controversy, and the controversy is expected to spread further.
On the afternoon of the 20th, KBS announced in an official position, “We deeply feel responsible and apologize for the accident that occurred during the filming of ‘Taejong Lee Bang-won’.”
He also explained how the controversial scene was filmed. KBS said, “The accident occurred while filming the scene of Lee Seong-gye’s falling horse, which was aired on the 7th episode on November 2nd. It is a difficult filming because For this reason, the production team went through the process of preparing and checking for any possible accidents a few days ago.”
However, he added that there was an accident where the actor fell far from the horse at the time of filming, and the horse’s upper body also hit the ground.

However, recently, the concern of viewers about the condition of the horse has grown, so we checked the health of the horse again, but unfortunately, about a week after filming, we confirmed that the horse died.” He then bowed his head, saying, “I have to take a deep sense of responsibility. He promised that he would consider a new filming method in order not to repeat such an accident. KBS said, “We will try to find a different way of filming and expressing. In addition, we will find ways to ensure the safety of animals at various filming sites through the advice and cooperation of related organizations and experts.”
Earlier, in the 7th episode of ‘Taejong Lee Bang-won’, which was recently aired on KBS1, a scene of a dizzying horse was exposed. Controversy over animal cruelty arose when the Animal Freedom Coalition, an animal rights group, released a video from the scene at the time of filming. According to the released video, in this scene, a rope was tied to the horse’s ankle at the time of filming and forcibly knocked it down, and because of this, the body of the horse in the scene in question turned over 90 degrees and its head fell to the floor. With these words, his body turned over and he lay alone for a while.
The Animal Freedom Coalition strongly criticized it, saying, “As many feared, when filming a scene in which a horse was knocked down, it was confirmed that a wire was tied to the horse’s leg and forcibly knocked down.”
He also said, “I express great concern that the horse may have suffered serious harm.” He also pointed out that “treating animals as ‘props’ for broadcast on KBS, a public broadcaster, is a shameful act that goes against the times.”
KBS immediately apologized, but when it became known that the horse died a week after filming, protests from viewers continued. On the viewer’s bulletin board on the official website of ‘Taejong Lee Bang-won’, protest posts calling for the abolition of the drama are continuing, criticizing the behavior of the production team.
Eventually, a petition requesting the program to be abolished appeared on the bulletin board of the Blue House. On the 20th, a petition titled ‘Please stop and punish the K** drama ***** drama series that treats animals as props for broadcast shooting’ was posted on the bulletin board of the Blue House petition on the 20th, and as of the morning of the 21st, the petition The number of people who agreed to it exceeded 33,000.
The entertainment industry is also voicing a sad voice about the controversy.
