Another allegation of plagiarism by Professor Seong-ro Yoon’s team at Seoul National University… Minister Lee Jong-ho’s son is the first author

Another allegation of plagiarism has been raised against the research team of Professor Yun Seong-ro of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is being investigated by Seoul National University for a recent thesis plagiarism controversy.

According to Seoul National University, etc. on the 1st, on the 27th of last month, a suspicion of plagiarism was raised about another paper by Professor Yoon’s research team in the online community of Seoul National University.

The paper in question is a paper titled ‘Energy-efficient Knowledge Distillation for Spiking Neural Networks’ published in June of last year, and it is claimed that the sentences from the other two papers previously published abroad were taken and combined.

This thesis is first authored by Mr. Lee, son of Minister of Science, Technology, Information and Communication Lee Jong-ho, and Mr. Lee is pursuing his PhD at Seoul National University.

Professor Yun Seong-ro was listed as the corresponding author in this paper following the previous allegation of plagiarism.

Seoul National University plans to leave it to the decision of the Research Integrity Committee, which started its own investigation on the 27th.

Professor Yoon’s research team is under investigation by the committee after allegations of plagiarism were raised about the paper submitted to the International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) on the 24th of last month.

Seoul National University said, “We have given discretion to the investigation committee so that it can investigate not only the suspected papers, but also other papers if necessary.”

The report on the results of the investigation will be submitted within 60 days from the 27th of last month, when the investigation committee was formed.
