Anseong Police Station, publicity of amendments to the Road Traffic Act revised in 2022

Anseong Police Station announced on the 12th that as the amendment to the Road Traffic Act, which strengthened the duty to temporarily stop in front of crosswalks and to protect pedestrians, came into effect, it will continue to guide and publicize the citizens about major amendments.

According to the statistics of the Anseong Police Station, in 2021, of the 17 traffic accidents in Anseong, the number of pedestrian deaths was 10, accounting for 58.8%, confirming the need for a traffic safety policy to protect pedestrians.

According to this amendment to the Road Traffic Act, the driver’s duty to temporarily stop is granted not only when there is a pedestrian at the crosswalk, but also when the pedestrian is about to cross the crosswalk. Accordingly, from the 12th, even if there is no one on the crosswalk, drivers must slow down while looking around to see if a pedestrian is trying to cross the crosswalk. The same applies to crosswalks that meet when turning right. In case of violation, a fine of 60,000 won and 10 demerit points will be imposed on the driver based on a passenger car.

In addition, the duty to temporarily stop within the child protection zone is strengthened. During crosswalks within the child protection zone, the driver must stop in front of a crosswalk where no signal is installed, regardless of whether a pedestrian has crossed.

Regarding amendments to the Road Traffic Act, card news, posters, and promotional videos produced by the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency are shared with relevant organizations to promote non-face-to-face promotions using high-power media such as electronic billboards in large marts, bus platform BIS (bus information system), and social media. At the same time, we plan to continue promoting various aspects, such as conducting face-to-face activities such as traffic safety campaigns in cooperation with partner organizations (Green Mothers Association, Model Drivers Association).

Anseong Police Station chief said, “We will continue to promote, guide, and crack down on the revised Road Traffic Act so that it does not confuse citizens, and we will continue to work hard for pedestrian traffic safety.”
