On the 3rd (local time), Apple released the iOS 12.5.5 update for older iPhones and iPads that cannot install the latest iOS 15.
Apple provides security patches when security vulnerabilities are found in older models whose OS upgrades have been discontinued. In this update, security vulnerabilities such as CoreGraphics, WebKit, and XNU have been fixed.
One of the vulnerabilities may have been used to distribute NSO Pegasus spyware to compromised devices, according to the Bleeping Computer.
iOS 12.5.5 update supports ▲6th generation iPod touch ▲iPhone 5S ▲ iPhone 6 ▲ iPhone 6 Plus ▲ iPad Air ▲ iPad mini 2 ▲ iPad mini 3 and can be installed through Settings > General > Software Update.
