“Apple to apply digital car keys to Hyundai and Genesis”

It is reported that Apple will expand the ‘digital car key’ function that Apple has supported to BMW vehicles to Hyundai Motors and Genesis this summer.

Reporter Mark Guman of Bloomberg predicted on the 16th (local time) that based on the code result found in Apple’s operating system (iOS) 15, Hyundai and Genesis would also support Apple’s digital car key function.

In the meantime, Apple digital car keys only worked for BMWs.

If you use a digital car key, you can unlock the car with just an iPhone without a car key. When you hold your iPhone close to the handle of a car, it unlocks through Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

After getting in the car, you can start the engine by recognizing your iPhone with the NFC reader and wireless charger. It can be used without a separate authentication process. Even without an iPhone battery, it can run for up to 5 hours in a power reserve mode.

Nine to Five Mac and Engadget have not yet decided specifically which vehicles will introduce the digital car key function, but they predicted that they would be available in vehicles such as the Ioniq 5 from this summer.
