The much-anticipated press conference by Apple is scheduled to take place in two days – on September 13th. The tech giant is all set to unveil its latest generation iPhone, the iPhone 15. Following the tradition, the device is expected to hit the market next week. In addition to this, Apple will also launch the official version of iOS 17, allowing existing users to upgrade their devices. Interestingly, this year, alongside the iOS 17 release, Apple plans to introduce iPadOS 17 as well, while simultaneously phasing out six older models of iPhones and iPads.
A recent report by Bloomberg news suggests that both iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will be released on the same day this year, reinforcing Apple’s drive for synchrony. Based on the current press conference schedule, which pointed towards September 13th, foreign media has estimated that the iPhone 15 will be officially launched on the 22nd, coinciding with the release of the latest iOS 17 version.
Apple’s official website has specified the minimum requirement for iOS 17, stating that an A12 chip or higher is necessary for installation. The upgrade will be available for iPhone XS, XR, and iPhone SE 2, as well as their subsequent models. Unfortunately, the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, released in 2017, will not be eligible for the upgrade. On the iPad front, iPadOS 17 will phase out the first-generation iPad Pro models, both 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch, and the fifth-generation iPad.
Consequently, a total of six devices will miss out on the benefits of the latest iPhone security updates.
