Applying the 4th step of distancing in Jeju Island… Closing of designated beaches

In response to the rapid increase in the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Jeju Island, the 4th stage of social distancing for two weeks is applied.

Jeju Island announced on the 15th that it would raise the social distance from 00:00 on the 18th to midnight on the 29th from the current 3rd level to 4th level. Accordingly, in Jeju Island, private gatherings of only two people are allowed after 6 pm, and 12 designated beaches in the province will be closed from the 18th.

In the fourth stage of social distancing, even those vaccinated are limited in the number of people at gatherings, events, and using multi-use facilities. Events are completely banned, but weddings and funerals are allowed up to 49 people per day. Multi-use facilities can be operated until 10 pm, and entertainment pubs and danran pubs are not allowed to operate due to an order prohibiting gatherings.

Jeju Island has reported 212 confirmed cases in the last week (8-14 days), bringing the average daily number of new cases to 30.29. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province stood at 2,078 as of the 14th. There has also been a group infection, with 31 confirmed cases related to elderly facilities, raising concerns about the spread of Corona.

The number of large-area organizations applying the fourth stage of social distancing in Jeju Island has increased to three after Daejeon and Busan, excluding the metropolitan area. In Daejeon, on the 27th of last month, and in Busan on the 10th, the 4th level of social distancing has been applied. Basic organizations such as Changwon and Gimhae in Gyeongnam are implementing the 4th stage of social distancing.
