Appointment of Minister of the Republic of Korea, resignation of the National Police Agency, Lee Jun-seok, etc.

‘Higher-order equation’ needs to be solved over whether Kim Seung-hee is appointed or not in ‘Investigation Request’
Postponed after Kim Chang-ryong’s resignation repair tour… Lee Jun-seok’s ‘Traffic Control’

President Yoon Seok-yeol is planning to take a look at domestic issues that have been delayed as he returns home from his five-day, three-night, five-day visit to Madrid.

President Yoon visited Madrid to attend the NATO summit held on the 29th and 30th of last month, and digested a total of 16 diplomatic events for three days.

First of all, while concentrating on his debut on the multilateral diplomatic stage, there was no mention of domestic issues in the field.

In front of President Yoon returning to Korea, the appointment of three people, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Park Soon-ae, Candidate for Health and Welfare Minister Kim Seung-hee, and Candidate Seung-gyeom Kim of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, were appointed, whether or not to accept the resignation of Commissioner Kim Chang-ryong, torrential rain, high prices, high interest rates, high exchange rates, etc. There are a lot of pending issues regarding the used’ situation.

The appointment of the minister is not expected to have a formidable impact no matter what President Yoon makes.

The deadline for re-sending the personnel hearing progress report for the three people ended on the 29th.

In fact, according to the law, President Yoon can be appointed without a personnel hearing at the National Assembly.

However, during the tour, the situation changed when the National Election Commission confirmed certain points of suspicion regarding Candidate Seung-hee Kim’s allegation of violation of the Political Fund Act and requested the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office to investigate.

In particular, as the political burden of the government and the ruling party increased after the investigation was commissioned, a change in the atmosphere is being sensed over Kim’s whereabouts within the people’s power.

In a country where even the National Assembly’s ‘membership’ agreement is difficult to reach, the Democratic Party of Korea is raising the level of offensive by urging the nominations of Kim Seung-hee and Park Soon-ae to withdraw their nominations and voluntarily resign.

During the tour, the presidential office is said to have conducted a thorough legal review of allegations that candidate Kim Seung-hee used political funds at the time of the 20th National Assembly member to provide encouragement to his aides and support money to members of the same party.

The dilemma is that successive ‘falling horses’ for the same position following former Health and Welfare Minister Jeong Ho-young can rekindle the controversy over poor personnel verification, which can also damage President Yoon.

For President Yoon, the ‘appointment equation’ has become more complicated after returning to Korea.

On the 27th of last month, when President Yoon left for Madrid, and 26 days before his term of office, Kim Chang-ryong, chief of the National Police Agency, expressed his resignation.

Commissioner Kim’s resignation does not seem to have anything to do with internal opposition to the police control recommendation of the Police System Improvement Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.

The spokesperson’s office confirmed the policy to suspend acceptance of the resignation, saying, “Whether to accept Commissioner Kim’s resignation will be decided at a later date according to relevant laws and regulations.”

In a situation where the controversy over the overthrow of the public security chief’s personnel continues and the internal opposition from the police against the new police department of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security still exists, if President Yoon refuses to resign, this can be regarded as another ‘pressure signal’.

In addition, the government plans to examine countermeasures against flood damage caused by torrential rains in the metropolitan area and central regions, and economic measures in response to inflation and a sharp rise in the exchange rate.

While President Yoon was away from home, Prime Minister Han Deok-soo took care of the domestic situation, such as issuing emergency instructions regarding torrential rain.

Before leaving the country, President Yoon also asked a prime minister to “take care of domestic affairs.”

Returning homecoming, appointment of minister, resignation of the National Police Agency chief, Lee Jun-seok, and other pending issues

It is also of interest whether President Yoon will be involved in public remarks, etc., in the situation within the party, which is experiencing severe internal pain in relation to the suspicion of a teacher who destroys evidence of sexual abuse by President Lee Jun-seok of the People’s Power.

In the meantime, President Yoon kept a distance from conflicts related to Lee, saying, “It is not something the president should mention about party affairs.”

An official from the presidential office said in a phone call, “It is unlikely that President Yoon will make a first comment on the matter related to representative Lee at this time.”

However, with the recent resignation of Rep. Park Seong-min, who is considered a ‘pro-yun’, as the party’s chief of staff, there is an interpretation that the mainstream ‘Yun Heuk-kwan’ (a key official on President Yoon’s side) has entered into a full-fledged ‘Lee Jun-seok isolation operation’.

Along with criticism that the ruling party is focusing only on ‘family fights’ while leaving behind issues of livelihood, the public’s fatigue on this issue is also increasing.

This is why there are speculations that President Yoon can overturn the existing policy and start ‘traffic control’.

As it is known that CEO Lee Jun-seok will come to Seoul International Airport on the same day to meet President Yun directly, there is a possibility that the situation in the passport will fluctuate again immediately after returning home.
