Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung is struggling to catch the swaying Honam people. This is because the sense of crisis has grown when Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, the People’s Strength presidential candidate, showed around 20% approval in Honam, the hometown of the Democratic Party.

In response, the opposition party appealed for support, saying, “If the Honam people support the opposition, they will surely repay it through a regime change.”

Compared to Hong Jun-pyo, a member of the People’s Power, who ran as the presidential candidate of the Liberty Korea Party (predecessor of the People’s Power) in the 19th presidential election in 2017, received only 2.52% of the vote in Honam, the conservative party candidate Yoon’s approval rating is quite low.

Commissioned by New Daily and Sisa Gyeongnam, PNR surveyed 1007 voters across the country from the 19th to the 20th on the suitability of the next president. It is unusual for a conservative party candidate to have an approval rating of close to 30% in Honam. In the same survey, Lee’s approval rating in Honam was 56.8%.

The Democratic Party is of the opinion that it is difficult to guarantee victory in this election, which flows into Ryanggang-gu, if it does not recover approval ratings in Honam, the political backbone of the country. This is why concerns within the party continue over the flow of public sentiment in Honam.

The People’s Power is determined to spur the attack on the Honam people by following this flow of Honam public sentiment. He said that he would appeal to the public by developing a pledge along with a broader integration process in the predecessor committee.
