A man in his 50s who threatened to blow up the National Assembly building in Yeouido, Seoul, was caught by the police on the 18th.

After tracing the location of the caller on the same day, the police arrested a man in his 50s as a current criminal at around 3 pm in Ganghwa Island, Incheon.

A police official said, “Mr. A said he did it out of a sudden.” He said, “The Ganghwa Police Station will conduct an investigation after criminal prosecution of A.”

Police and fire departments searched the grounds of the National Assembly and found no explosives. It is also known that there is no record of Mr. A’s access to the National Assembly in the last two weeks.

Earlier, a threatening phone call was received from a member of the National Assembly’s office at around 2 pm, saying, “We have installed explosives in the National Assembly and will only inform you about your office.” The National Assembly immediately reported the matter to 112.

The police and fire department sent 10 fire trucks, 50 firefighters, and Yeongdeungpo Police Officers and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) to the National Assembly.
