London – (dpa):
Arsenal team seeks to return to the path of victories when it faces its host Everton, in the twenty-second round of the English Premier League, tomorrow, Saturday.
Arsenal had left the FA Cup after losing 0/1 to Manchester City, last Friday, in the fourth round of the tournament.
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta wants his players to forget the bitterness of losing and get out of the FA Cup and focus on the Everton match to win and take a step forward in his campaign to win the league title, which has been absent from the club’s coffers since the 2003-2004 season.
Arsenal tops the standings with 50 points, 5 points ahead of its closest rivals Manchester City, who face Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.
Arsenal have played 19 league matches so far, one less than Manchester City, with 16 wins, two draws and one loss.
Arteta expressed his regret for losing his team to Manchester City in the FA Cup, saying: “It is sad because we were out of the tournament and we could have achieved a better result in this match.”
Arteta added, “The feeling I have is that we were equal to them, and we made things difficult for them, but we lacked something that prevented us from winning against such a team.”
In its match against Everton, Arsenal misses the efforts of Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny, whose absence from the team was confirmed after he underwent knee surgery last Tuesday.
This is the first confrontation between Arsenal and Everton this season, especially since the first round confrontation between them, which was to be held in the seventh round, was postponed.
The last match that brought them together in the league dates back to last May 22, when the London team won 1/5.
Although Arsenal is performing strongly this season and is at the top of the standings, while Everton is in the penultimate position with 15 points, it is expected that the match will not be easy at all for the team nicknamed the Gunners.
The difficulty of the meeting lies in the fact that Everton appointed Shane Dyche as the new technical director of the team, last Monday, to succeed Frank Lampard, which means that he entered the confrontation with different motives, and most likely with a new way of playing other than the one Everton used to play under Lampard’s leadership.
In his first interview, published on the club’s official website, Dyche was keen to motivate his players, as he expressed his happiness at the challenge that he would face and confirmed that he expected the players to be ready to work with all seriousness at the start of his tenure as coach of the team.
Dyche admitted that a lot of work awaits the team in order to advance in the standings and move away from the relegation zone, so he was keen to stress the importance of the fans’ support for the team.
He said that the relationship with the masses is very important to him, indicating that he knows that he must gain the confidence of the masses through his work, which he will look forward to.
Daish will not face a major crisis in the leadership of the team, especially since he knows most of the players, given that he worked as a technical director for Burnley for 9 and a half years, and there are some familiar faces to the coach, such as James Tarkovsky, Michael Keane and Dwight McNeil, where he trained them when he was coach of Burnley.
The matches of this round will open today, Friday, when Chelsea host Fulham.
The competitions for this round will be completed tomorrow, Saturday, as Aston Villa will play with Leicester City, Manchester United with Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton with Liverpool, Brighton with Bournemouth, Brentford with Southampton, and Newcastle with West Ham.
The competitions for this round will end next Sunday, when Nottingham Forest will play with Leeds, and Tottenham will play with Manchester City.
