ASEAN-Canada jointly review the progress and determine the direction to stimulate relationships in all dimensions

Today (November 12, 2022) at 7:00 pm in Ballroom III, Lobby (L) Sokha Hotel Phnom Penh, General Prayuth Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Attended ASEAN-Canada Special Summit attended by Member Leaders- ASEAN states from all nine countries, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. and the Secretary General of ASEAN also attended the meeting to celebrate the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-Canada relations as well as review the progress Determining the direction of driving relationships in all dimensions. as well as exchanging views, Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, Deputy General Secretary to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs to act as spokesperson on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office Disclosure of important issues as follows:
The Prime Minister welcomed the commitment of Prime Minister Trudeau and Canada to strengthen their existing cooperation. as well as expanding cooperation in new areas with ASEAN to strengthen The Prime Minister took this opportunity to present three important agendas for ASEAN-Canada. should jointly push the following:

1. Create opportunities and new economic momentum, together with the development of the digital economy. and increasing digital capabilities for entrepreneurs Especially among MSMEs and start-ups, which are important drivers of economic growth in the region.

2. Strengthen human security especially public health security and develop human capital. Thailand appreciated Canada’s role in supporting ASEAN in the fight against COVID-19, and hoped that both sides would continue to work together to strengthen public health security. through the ASEAN Center for Response to Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases Including promoting continued cooperation in education through the “Seeds” (SEED) project, which provides funding to develop human resources to be ready for various changes that are happening in the present and in the future.

3. Thirdly, accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, such as the empowerment of women. promoting green growth ASEAN and Canada can work together to promote a partnership for sustainable development. and pushing forward new initiatives through the ASEAN Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue. Including other cooperation frameworks such as APEC, where Thailand is pushing the BCG economic model as an important concept to be held this year.

After the meeting ended at around 8:30 pm, the Prime Minister and his wife attended the Gala Dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia in honor of the leaders of the countries that attended the meeting at the International Convention and Exhibition Center Chroy Changvar (CICC).
