ASML, 2021 sales of 18.6 billion, net profit of 5.9 billion euros

[테크월드뉴스=서유덕 기자] ASML, a supplier of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) exposure equipment, announced its fourth quarter and annual results for 2021 on the 19th local time in the Netherlands.

Peter Beninck, CEO of ASML.

For the fourth quarter of 2021, ASML recorded sales of 4.986 billion euros (about 6.7 trillion won), net profit of 1.74 billion euros (about 2.4 trillion won), and a net profit margin of 35.6%. In 2021, sales were 18.611 billion euros (about 25.1 trillion won), net profit was 5.83 billion euros (about 7.9 trillion won), and the net profit margin was 31.6%.

Peter Wennink, President and CEO of ASML, said, “The fourth quarter sales are approximately 5 billion euros, which is consistent with our previous forecast. It’s thanks to growth.” He continued, “The total reservation sales for the current period is 7.1 billion euros (about 9.6 trillion won), which includes 2.6 billion euros (about 3.5 trillion won) related to 0.33NA and 0.55NA EUV products.”

According to ASML, high semiconductor end-market demand in 2021 led to an increase in chip makers’ wafer shipments, and ASML also said that customer demand continued to exceed production capacity. “To support our customers, ASML is providing an upgrade solution that increases the productivity of existing systems,” said Beninck, CEO. “We are also reducing lead times to produce more systems.” He continued, “ASML has eliminated the factory test (FAT) stage before shipment and has undergone a final test from the customer to acknowledge the official acquisition. However, it is to provide equipment to customers faster,” he emphasized.

ASML forecasts sales and profit margin of 3.3-3.5 billion euros (about 4.5-4.7 trillion won) and 49% in the first quarter of 2022. The lowered sales forecast is because some equipment sales are delayed due to early shipments before FAT, and the company explained that about 2 billion euros (about 2.7 trillion won) will be reflected in the second quarter results. Sales in 2022 are expected to increase by 20% compared to 2021. “This is considering that a total of 6 EUV equipment will be shipped early and recorded as sales in 2023,” Beninck explained.

Meanwhile, in relation to the fire accident at the Berlin plant on January 4, local time, it was reported that there would be no significant impact on sales in 2022.

In addition, ASML announced that it received an additional order for the latest EUV exposure equipment EXE:5000 in the fourth quarter of 2021 following 4 units in 2018, and received the first order for EXE:5200, a 0.55 NA EUV equipment, from Intel in early 2022. Recently, TSMC and Samsung Electronics have developed 0.3 nanometers (nm, 1 nm is 10).-9m) The competition for next-generation EUV equipment is expected to intensify as competition for ultra-fine semiconductor processing is underway.
