Aston Martin has decided not to follow Red Bull by building its own F1 engine.
Porsche is said to be still looking for a partner for 2026, but Auto Motor und Sport reports that Aston Martin has ruled out a collaboration because it would damage its own brand.
At the same time, Lawrence Stroll-owned Aston Martin was considering designing and building its own F1 power unit for the 2026 F1 regulations.
Aston Martin F1 team principal Mike Clack said: “Having assessed all the resources we need and the situation for the next few years, we have decided that we are very happy with our current power unit supplier.
“Therefore, we have decided not to follow up.”
Fernando Alonso, who has just joined Aston Martin from the Alpine F1 team, also impressed when driving the Mercedes F1 power unit for the first time in Abu Dhabi last week.
“I was a bit worried when they gave me the engine mileage,” said Alonso.
“I said this figure was a bit high compared to my standards.”
“But the engine was definitely excellent.”
