At least 100 DEAD, according to the authorities (Update)

A devastating earthquake occurred on the night of Sunday to Monday in Turkey. The earthquake caused at least 100 deaths and was felt in several countries, authorities said.

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake has rocked Turkey and Syria, killing at least 100 people, according to authorities quoted by Sky News.

The earthquake had its epicenter in the city of Pazarcik in Kahramanmaras province, about 20 miles from Gaziantep, at a depth of 11 kilometers. The earthquake was followed by five strong aftershocks.

At least 38 people were declared dead in Turkey and another 62 died in Syria. The earthquake was felt in Lebanon and Cyprus.

Hundreds of buildings were destroyed, and people took to the streets in desperation, despite the cold. Rescue teams and residents are searching for survivors among the ruins, reports news.

The governor of Osmaniye province said at least 34 buildings collapsed due to the massive earthquake, while the governor of Malatya said 130 buildings fell in his region.

4.5 degree EARTHQUAKE in the Vrancea seismic zone

An earthquake of 4.5 degrees occurred on Monday morning, at 03:26, in the Vrancea seismic zone.

The earthquake was followed by three lighter aftershocks of 2.6, 2.9 and 2.7 degrees respectively. The earthquake in Romania occurred nine minutes after an earthquake of 6.2 degrees, registered in Turkey.
