The focal depth was 10 kilometers, and the epicenter was located 75 kilometers southeast of the capital Jakarta. the earthquake was strong, and no tsunami warning was triggered. Local media reported that the earthquake killed at least 46 people and injured 700.

According to reports on the Internet, after the earthquake in Zhanyu County, many buildings collapsed, and people took refuge in the streets, and some fell to the ground. Residents remembered that they suddenly felt a huge tremor, and the walls and ceiling of the office were shaking, and he was very frightened and feared that there would be another earthquake.

The earthquake was also felt in Jakarta, and some offices had to be evacuated. Dwikorita Karnawati, head of Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, who was in the parliament building at the time, advised people to stay outside in case of an aftershock while the agency examined the extent of the damage.
