In January of this year, the ‘home run king’ Hank Aaron, a big star in MLB history, passed away at the age of 86. He is an Atlanta franchise star who played for the Atlanta Braves for 21 of his 23-year career as a big leaguer. Having hit 755 home runs in his career, he hit three home runs in the 1957 World Series (WS, 4 out of 7) and wore the championship ring. Naturally, his jersey number 44 was permanently removed from Atlanta.

Atlanta dedicated a champion trophy to their hero. Atlanta defeated the Houston Astros 7-0 in Game 6 of the WS at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on the 3rd. With this, Atlanta, with a series record of 4-2, enjoyed the joy of winning the championship for the first time in 26 years since 1995. Combining his predecessors, the Boston Braves (1914) and Milwaukee Braves (1957), he became the fourth team to win the World Series.

On the other hand, Houston, who climbed to the WS for the first time in two years and challenged to win the WS for the second time in their career after 2017, failed to achieve their goals. In particular, Houston manager Dusty Baker (72), the second oldest manager in history to advance to the WS, has not been able to relieve his military ties in the 11th postseason and his second WS challenge.

Jorge Soler (29) from Cuba was awarded the World Series MVP honors, after hitting a home run in the third game final, and hitting three runs in the preemptive final on the same day. He is the second Cuban native after pitcher Livan Hernandez (1997 Florida Marlins). Soler, who was traded from the Kansas City Royals to Atlanta in July of this year, also set the record for most home runs in a single World Series among Atlanta hitters. Atlanta hit 11 home runs in six games in the World Series, far ahead of Houston, who hit two “little giants” Jose Altuveman.

In Game 6 of fate, a long batting decided the winner. Atlanta won the victory with Soler, who appeared as the second designated hitter in the two-of-a-kind first and second base opportunity, tossed Houston right-hander Luis Garcia’s 8th bat fastball and hit a big three-run home run with a distance of 136 meters that went over the left wall. In the 5th inning, Danceby Swanson drew a two-run arch to the left and ran away 5-0 from 1-2 at second base, and the game leaned toward Atlanta. Atlanta fled 6-0 thanks to Freddie Freeman’s first RBI left double in the second base first base that followed, and in the seventh inning, Freeman hit a wedge with a wedge mid-month solo shot.

Atlanta left-handed starting pitcher Max Freed struck out six and stopped six innings with four sporadic hits and no runs, contributing greatly to the championship.
