Changanassery: A youth was arrested for breaking into a house in Pattappakal and assaulting a woman. The woman, who was injured in the attack, was admitted to hospital. The woman, a native of Payipad, was attacked around 12 noon on Thursday when her mother – in – law and father were not at home.
Her husband had gone to work. In the work area behind the house, the young woman opened the door thinking that it might be her parents who heard the calling bell ringing while washing clothes in the washing machine. Seeing the stranger, he closed the door and went inside.
He returned to the work area and continued his laundry, but the assailant, who came from behind, covered his face. The woman jumped in and tried to close the door, but he forcibly pushed the door open and slammed it into the woman’s face. Police said the woman, who tried to run out of here again, was stabbed in the abdomen, hit in the head with a wall and stabbed in the chest with her hand. With this, the young woman lost consciousness.
When the family returned, they found the woman in a critical condition with her body battered and her clothes torn. Attempts have also been made to remove the necklace from their necks. Thrikkodithanam police registered a case. The woman’s statement was taken. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident and further action will be taken on the basis of the medical report, DySP R Sreekumar said.
