Attack on church and temple; Defendant was chased away by locals | Attack on mosque and temple; man chased by locals

Kallambalam: Anti-social attack on two places of worship in and around Navaikkulam. One person was chased away by locals and arrested and handed over to the police. The attack on the Vellurkonam mosque and the Idamannila Kaipalli Nagaruka took place at night on alternate days.

The stone was hurled at the Navaikulam Vellurkonam mosque around 10 pm on Sunday. The church’s digital board was smashed in the quarry. Neighbors who heard the noise chased the accused and arrested him near Navaikkulam school and handed him over to the police. Sudheeran (38) was arrested from Kilimanoor Canara hill.

He was arrested and handed over to the Pallikkal police in connection with the temple attack case. Police said Sudheeran was behind the two incidents. There were cases against him even before he committed theft in places of worship. He committed thefts in 2007 in Kilimanoor, 2019 in Nagaroor and 2020 in Kallambalam.

The idols of Nagarukavu-Madan Nada were found destroyed two days ago at Navaikkulam Mukkada Idamanila Kaippally. Those who had come to the temple in the evening to light the lamps were informed of the disappearance of the deities. It was then found scattered in the vicinity. Attempts have also been made to demolish the Kanikavanchi in the temple. The church was attacked after police arrived to investigate a complaint lodged by Kav officials. Jamaat general secretary S.K. Nisar Kallambalam lodged a complaint with the police.

Two weeks ago, anti-social elements hurled empty liquor bottles at the house of the president of the Maruthikunnu Muslim Jamaat. The locals demanded that the police take strong action against such acts which are detrimental to the religious harmony in the country.
