Los Angeles ∙ In the United States, Hue Can Tran (72), who shot and killed 10 people in a dance club in Monterey Park, California, has died by shooting himself. The shooting happened on Saturday night during China’s Lunar New Year celebrations. He entered the dance club with a gun, shot 20 people and then drove off in a van.
The attacker was found dead in a van in Torrance, 35 km from Los Angeles. Police said he also tried to attack another dance club in Alhambra 20-30 minutes after the first attack, but retreated as the men grabbed the gun. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said the majority of the victims were Chinese, and the motive for the attack was unclear.
