[헤럴드경제=박로명 기자] Due to the collapse of the Korean cryptocurrency Luna and its sister coin Terra USD (UST), individual investors around the world are complaining of the pain and psychological shock of property loss.

As Luna and UST were once popular coins in the top 10 by market capitalization of virtual currencies, the crash seems to have left an unprecedented level of scarring on so-called ant investors.

According to Reuters on the 17th (local time), the Lunar and UST incidents affected not only the US, where virtual currency investment was active, but also investors in the UK, Spain, India and Nigeria.

Local media reported that investors are suffering one after another in Singapore, where Terraform Labs, the issuer of Luna and UST, is located.

“I can’t believe I’m obsessed with cryptocurrencies,” said Nofe Isa, 25, an unemployed Nigerian who lost all $5,000 when Luna crashed.

Tejan Shrivastava, 31, a graphic designer from Mumbai, India, said that all the money disappeared in 15 minutes due to the fall of Luna.

Reuters reported that despite supervisors’ warning that it was a high-risk asset, ants flocked to cryptocurrencies in hopes of quick returns, and lost trust in cryptocurrencies due to the Lunar crash.

Reddit, an online investment forum for American ants, is also overflowing with articles desperate for investment losses.

A 49-year-old father with three children said that he had delayed his retirement plan due to this loss while he was in debt on a home loan, and an article was also posted that said he had lost 180,000 dollars (about 230 million won) at once.

The economic media Market Watch introduced the case of Neil Somani, a 24-year-old American young man who lost $20,000 (25 million won) after quitting a good job and investing in Luna.

Somani, who majored in computer science at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), joined Citadel, a super-large hedge fund, and took part as a ‘builder’ to quit the job and build the Terra blockchain ecosystem.

He confessed that he realized that the UST system was unsustainable and that he tried to find ways to improve it, but that it did not prevent the collapse of UST.

Singapore’s English media, Today, reported on the case of local young people who lost money through investment in Luna. A man in his late 20s named Lowe bought Luna and lost 90% of his investment, or S$40,000 (36 million won), within a few days.

“I didn’t understand why the Luna plummeted after the UST fell below the dollar,” he said, regretting that “I did not sell the Luna with the blind hope that the UST would peg to the dollar again.”

“A lot of people got on the boat because it once gave me 400 times more money than saving in a Singapore bank, and because they thought there was no risk associated with a stablecoin pegged to the dollar,” he said.

European investors were also unable to avoid the repercussions of the Lunar crash. The Spanish daily El Pais highlighted the Lunar crash and the loss of the ants.

An investor in his 30s said, “I invested 40,000 euros (53 million won) in Luna, and it has now fallen to 4 euros (5,300 won). Luna seemed to be the safest bet.”

Popular British YouTuber and rapper JJ Olatounji posted on Twitter that he had lost $2.8 million (3.5 billion won) due to the plunge in Luna.

The Daily Mail, a British daily, reported that some investors were even posting articles considering the extreme choice in the wake of the Lunar crash.

On a Reddit bulletin board, one investor described the option he shouldn’t make as the only way out, saying, “I’m losing my home and becoming homeless.” .

Singapore media Today also reported that a message was posted in the local cryptocurrency Telegram chat room, appealing for extreme choices and asking for help.
