The leaders of the United States, Britain and Australia have revealed details of plans to build new fleets of nuclear submarines, a move seen as a counterweight to China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to the security agreement “AUKUS” (AUKUS, which is the military alliance of Australia, Britain and the United States), Australia will first get at least three nuclear submarines from the United States.

The triple alliance will also cooperate to build a new fleet using cutting-edge technology, including reactors built by the British company Rolls-Royce.

Beijing said the major naval deal had “damaged peace and stability”. The Chinese Mission to the United Nations accused the United States, Britain and Australia of nuclear submarine cooperation as “three crimes” and affected the nuclear non-proliferation system.
