If you have a viral respiratory disease such as flu and pneumonia during the changing season, it is good to pay attention not only to brushing your teeth but also to taking care of your toothbrush. When you catch a cold, if you neglect oral hygiene, oral diseases such as periodontal disease can occur, and the virus can further multiply in the mouth.

On the 12th, Park Dae-yoon, president of UDI Dooam Dental Clinic, said, “If you catch a cold during the changing season, it is important to take care of your teeth and gums more carefully than usual. The most important thing is to brush your teeth in the right way using a toothbrush that suits your oral condition. “He said.

The toothbrush replacement cycle is usually about 3 months. However, if the toothbrush is deformed before then, it is desirable to replace it. This is because different people have different brushing habits, so the rate at which a toothbrush wears and deforms is also different. If the toothbrush is worn out and does not function properly, it can cause damage to the gums or a situation that is worse than not brushing.

If you have been sick during a period of illness such as oral disease, systemic disease, or a cold, you do not need to replace the toothbrush you used when you were sick. Even if bacteria remain on the toothbrush, the immune system cannot invade the body again if it is the same bacteria that made you sick.

If you are reluctant to use an existing toothbrush, you can sterilize it. However, don’t share your toothbrush with other people or keep it in the same room.

Used toothbrushes should be stored after they are sufficiently dry. If possible, it is best to dry your toothbrush in a sunny and ventilated area by a window.

If you rinse your teeth roughly with water after brushing your teeth, toothpaste or food stuck between the bristles of the toothbrush will not come out completely, and tooth decay, bad breath, and periodontitis may occur.

To prevent the growth of bacteria, it is also a good idea to spread the bristles slightly apart with a clean finger to remove foreign substances in running water and to rinse the toothbrush lightly with warm water or boiled water from a water purifier.
