Ban on human rights organizations: World community criticizes Russia

Moscow: Supreme Court bans human rights groups in Russia The court ordered the closure of the Memorial Human Rights Center, a human rights group. Earlier, the court closed down the human rights group Memorial International.

Russia’s move has drawn criticism from a number of countries. Britain and the United States have said Russia is trying to silence opposition leaders, including Alexei Navalny. Memorial Human Rights is an organization that speaks out against Russia’s repression.

The organization reported on the injustices that took place under the rule of Joseph Stalin. The memorial was brought to the attention of the international community because of these reports.
