Dhaka: The Australian team preparing for the T20 World Cup suffered another humiliating defeat. In the fifth T20, the outfielders lost by 60 runs to their lowest score against a weakened Bangladesh. The series ended 4-1. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 122 for 8 while Australia were all out for 62 in 13.4 overs.

Bangladesh won the fourth match of the series by carefully batting on a pitch that was not conducive to batting in Dhaka. Mohammad Naeem was the top scorer with 23 runs. Captain Mohammadullah scored 19 runs. Mahdi Hasan (13), Shakib Al Hasan (11), Soumya Sarkar (16) and Afif Hussain (10) also scored two runs. Nathan Ellis and Daniel Christian took two wickets each for Australia. The setback for Australia was the lack of good bowlers on the spinner-friendly pitch.

Australia won the toss and elected to field. Matthew Wade scored 22 runs and Ben McDermott 17 runs. All the other batsmen returned at the invitation. The Australian experiment with Dan Christian as the opener also failed. Shakib Al Hasan took 4 wickets for 9 runs in 3.4 overs. Mohammad Saifuddin took three wickets, Nass and Ahmed two.

This is the first time Australia has lost a T20 series against Bangladesh. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field. As the T20 World Cup draws near, Australia’s poor performance against Bangladesh is a headache. The T20 World Cup will be held in the UAE and Oman in October.
