MOREHEAD, Ky. Morehead State's baseball team rebounded from reverse Tuesday to rally and defeat West Virginia 9-6 by Allen Field Wednesday.
"Much better performance today," said the coach head Mike McGuire. "I thought we had good bats mostly, and there were a couple of guys playing well that didn't have enough engines. We put them in the line of fire, and they replied."
This is the third consecutive season that Morehead State has managed to win by the Power Five Conference team.
After falling 3-0 in the first inning for the second straight game, USC came from a 4-0 deficit then with a second five-run frame and a third three-year search.
Pits Zack Smith, Josh Baumgart, David Looney and Dom Masullo together to hold the Mountaineers until two races earned in the last seven. Baumgart, who only saw 1.1 action in 2019, was credited after spending 2.2 and spreading only four hits. Looney worked 1.2 innings with only one hit allowed, and Masullo sat down the visitors in the ninth order of his first saving of the season.
At the plate, the six winners crossed nine winners in the eagle order of the plate seven times. Freshman Zach Boyd, who entered the game with only one hit, he made a second count, a two-race racing in the second scoring racing. He drew a medal-loaded walk in the third part to push the Eagle as a result of 6-4.
Connor Pauly and Stephen Hill he was in charge of the offense with two hits each. Both of Pauly resulted in scores races as well. Hunter Fain, who led the nation in a percentage on the base, he was struck by two pitches and doubled production.
The Brock Helverson Eagle (0-1) registered a WVU boot for eight bikes (six holes) in 2.1 act.
Morehead State continues to play OVC at home this weekend. Eastern Kentucky visits the front game of the series set for Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
