Basil Thampi makes his debut in Mumbai Indians jersey; Two wickets in one over

Mumbai: Malayalee player Basil Thampi with a stunning performance in the Mumbai Indians jersey. The Ernakulam batsman took three wickets, including two in each over. And celebrated his debut with Mumbai. Prithviraj Shah (38), Rowman Powell (0) and Shardul Thakur (22) were all dismissed by the base. Chasing Mumbai’s target of 178, Delhi fell to 104 for six in 13.2 overs. Earlier, Murugan Ashwin and Thaimal Mills had taken two wickets apiece.

Lalit Yadav () and Akshar Patel () are at the crease. Prithviraj (38) was the first to return to the base. Delhi’s top scorer returns with a catch by Ishant Kishan in an attempt to pull Basil’s ball. Two balls later, the dangerous Rowman sent Powell back (0). Catch Daniel Sams this time. Powell also returns with a pull shot. Thakur was handed over to Rohit. He had earlier played for Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad. But this is the first time in a Mumbai jersey. Basel has conceded 26 runs in three overs so far.

Tim Seifert (21), Mandeep Singh (0) and Rishabh Pant (1) are the other outfielders. Seafert returns to New Zealand with 30 runs on Delhi’s scoreboard. Ashwin was bowled. In the next over, captain Rishabh returned the ball to Pavalina for an unnecessary shot. Caught by Tim David in the third man trying to cut Mills’ bouncer off the off stump.

Earlier, Mumbai got off to a shaky start. Rohit and Kishan added 67 runs for the first wicket. Rohit’s innings consisted of four fours and two sixes. But when he tried to strike a big blow against Kuldeep, Rohit lost. Rowman catches many. Thakur had dropped Rohit with an individual score of 25. Anmolpreet Singh (8), who reached the crease in the third, was disappointing. This time too Kuldeep took the wicket. Lalit Yadav caught in long off.

Tilak Verma (22 off 15 balls) reached the crease in the fourth over. The Indian under-19 batsman added 34 runs with Isha. But Prithviraj caught Shaikh in the third man in an attempt to cut Khalil Ahmed’s slow bouncer. Kieran Pollard (3) had just six balls to spare. Tim Seifert’s smashing diving catch at midwicket.

Tim David (12) then came to the crease and could not hold on to the crease for long. Khalil sent the star away. He caught Mandeep Singh in a rush to increase the run rate. But Kishan’s struggle in the last over led Mumbai to a respectable score. Kishan’s innings consisted of two sixes and 11 fours. Daniel Sams (7) was not out.

Thakur conceded 47 runs in four overs. Kamlesh Nagercoil scored 29 runs in two overs and Akshar Patel 40 runs in four overs.

Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Daniel Sams and Thyme Mills are Mumbai’s foreign players. Only Tim Seifert and Rowman Powell were included in the squad as foreign players.
