Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery retires from professional football

Milan: France and Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery has retired from active football. Ribery, the star of Serie A team Salernitana, decided to retire after suffering a knee injury.

The actor announced his retirement on social media. The star’s farewell note was in English, French, Italian and German.

The 39-year-old is bidding farewell to the club in 2019 after ending his legendary spell at Bayern Munich. Ribery, who tied the boots to Serie A club Fiorentina, came to Salernitana last season.

Ribery, who played for the French national team since 2006, announced his retirement from international football in 2014. Ribery played 81 games for France and scored 16 goals for the team.

Ribery has played 12 seasons with Bayern. The player excelled as an attacking midfielder. Ribery won nine Bundesliga titles and won the Champions League in 2013 with the club. He won six German Cups, four German Super Cups, the 2013 UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup with Bayern. Ribery was also a crucial presence in the France team that finished second in the 2006 World Cup.

Earlier, the player played for Turkish club Galatasaray and French League One team Marsa. Ribery won the Turkish Cup in the 2004-05 season with Galatasaray and the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2005 with Marsa.

Ribery’s partnership with Holland star Arjen Robben at Bayern Munich was famous. The progress of both on both wings has thrilled world football.

The player played 273 games with Bayern. The star has 86 goals and 92 assists. Ribery marks the end of a magical 22-year career.
