Bento coach Lee Kang-in was used when needed… Think about the team rather than the individual.

Bentuho, evaluation match against Costa Rica at Goyang Sports Complex on the 23rd
“I like the whole preparation process…you play it how you want”

Coach Paulo Bento, who leads the Korean men’s soccer team, continues to think about how to use Lee Kang-in (21, Mallorca).

In a press conference held online on the 22nd, a day before the evaluation match against Costa Rica, coach Bento said, “Lee Kang-in will be used when the team needs him. He’ n decision,” he said.

The Korean national team will play a friendly against Costa Rica on the 23rd at 8:00pm at the Goyang Sports Complex.

Before the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar opens, the only chance to experience the ‘complete’ including foreign players is this time with Costa Rica and Cameroon (27th), two evaluation matches.

This is an important period for both Bento coaches, who have to build the best members, and for the players who need to be in it.

Among them, the biggest concern is whether Lee Kang-in, who returned to the national team after 1 year and 6 months, will surely establish himself in the Bentuho.

However, Bento was wary of focusing all the attention on Lee Kang-in.

He said, “I know the media and fans are very interested in individual players, but from the coach’s point of view, the team is more important.

“You have to think about the team, not the individual players,” he said.

Regarding the Costa Rica game, Bento said, “I prepared like I always did.

At the beginning of the week, we paid the most attention to the recovery of the players.

Some players joined late and needed a bit more recovery.

I’m going to have a good game tomorrow so I can get results and play the way I want.”

As previously announced, the national team intend to try a ‘change’ in the A game in September.

Bento said, “At the start of the call, we said we would try different things, but it’s about the tactical system.

I don’t intend to use the same tactical system in both games.

The overall style will be the same.”

He continued, “We have a style of play that we have built for a long time from the beginning, and Heung-Min Son has been using it in different positions as a winger, a striker, and a striker.

Let’s see how we use it in the next game.

A lot of players can play more than one position, and they try to make the most of it.”

We will also check the defense combination to keep the national team strong through various options.

Bento, who called up three of the five backs, Kim Tae-hwan (Ulsan), Kim Moon-hwan (Jeonbuk), and Yoon Jong-gyu (Seoul), said to the right back, “I’m looking at options in rather than worrying.

Yoon Jong-gyu was a player who didn’t play much with us, but we selected him to see how he plays.

After comparing the various possibilities, we will consider more carefully before deciding on the World Cup member.”
