Discussing issues of conflict between the two countries… White House: ‘Responsible management of competition with China’

[아시아경제 김수환 기자] US President Joe Biden had a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss issues in the US-China conflict.

The White House announced on the 9th that President Biden and President Xi had “extensive strategic discussions on areas where U.S. interests are concentrated and areas where U.S. interests, values and perspectives are dispersed,” the White House said in a statement.

It was the first time in seven months since the first phone call in February this year that the leaders of the United States and China had a direct conversation.

“President Biden and President Xi have agreed to engage openly and frankly on both sets of agendas,” the White House said in a statement.

“As President Biden has made clear, this discussion is part of an ongoing effort by the United States to responsibly manage the competition between the United States and China.”

The White House also said that President Biden underscored the continued American interest in peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world.

“The two leaders discussed the responsibility of the two countries to ensure that competition does not turn into a conflict,” the White House said.
