Biden: Recession could be avoided… Temporary exemption from fuel tax is under review”

US President Joe Biden has reiterated his position on the recent economic situation that a recession is not inevitable.

President Biden met reporters at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where his private villa is located, on the 20th local time and spoke with former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, Reuters and others reported.

Former Secretary Summers, a Harvard University professor, has raised concerns about the realization of high inflation in the US since last year, and recently warned that it could face a recession within the next one to two years.

When asked whether he was considering a temporary suspension of the fuel tax, President Biden said, “I’m considering it.”

When asked if he had plans to visit Ukraine on his European tour scheduled from this weekend, he answered, “It doesn’t seem like it on this trip.”

Biden said he was in close contact with the Ukrainian president almost four times a week, although it would depend on a number of factors, including whether his visit to Ukraine would create more trouble for Ukraine or hamper what is going on.

From the 25th, President Biden will visit Germany to attend the G7 summit, followed by Spain to attend the NATO summit.

President Biden also mentioned that Ukraine, which applied for EU membership, is very likely to become a member of the EU.
