Biden urges Congress to suspend gasoline taxes for 90 days to alleviate people’s suffering : Infoquest

U.S. President Joe Biden called on Wednesday (June 22) for Congress to suspend the federal tax on gasoline for 90 days as Americans angered the rising oil prices. domestic

“The suspension of federal taxes on gasoline to 18 cents per gallon for 90 days will help lower gasoline prices. And it will help alleviate the suffering of the household sector,” Biden said in a speech at the Eisenhower Administration Building.

“I am asking companies to reduce the price of gasoline to consumers in response to the tax suspension of 18 cents per gallon. Now is not the time to take profits.”

The federal government is currently taxing 18 cents per gallon of gasoline and 24 cents per gallon on diesel. This is a tax collection that has been around for about 90 years.

Biden’s proposal comes up. After the American Automobile Association (AAA) reported that the nationwide average price for conventional gasoline was $4.955 a gallon on Wednesday (June 22), slightly down from $5.014 a week earlier. But it’s still significantly higher than last year’s $3.069 level.

However, members of Congress are unlikely to support Biden’s efforts. Even Democrats, such as Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives may not be willing to support such claims.
