The Bismarck Bobcats begin their quest to defend the Robertson Cup this Friday and Saturday as they take on the Aberdeen Wings in games 1 and 2 at home. The series marks the opening round of the Robertson Cup Playoffs, with the Bobcats aiming to repeat as champions after capturing the trophy in May 2025.
According to the team’s official website, the Bobcats went 2-4-2 against the Wings during the regular season, splitting their home and road games with a 1-2-1 record in each setting. The series will be hosted at the Bobcats’ home arena, continuing their tradition of opening playoff rounds on familiar ice.
Individual performances have highlighted recent form for both squads. Bismarck defenseman Jimmy Dodig contributed two goals and an assist in his lone appearance last weekend, while forward Teddy Richardson recorded a three-point weekend with two goals and an assist. On the Wings’ side, rookie forward Jonathan Doucette notched a goal and two assists in their series against Watertown, and Sam Scheetz added a goal and two assists as Aberdeen swept the Shamrocks in two one-goal games to build momentum.
The Bobcats split their most recent weekend series against the Minot Minotauros, winning 7-5 on Friday before falling 4-3 on Saturday. In contrast, the Wings entered the matchup with momentum after sweeping the Shamrocks 3-2 and 4-3 the previous weekend.
Looking back at their championship run, the Bobcats overcame an early deficit in the semifinals, dropping the first two games at home to the Aberdeen Wings before rallying for three consecutive wins to advance. Their division final against the Austin Bruins went four games, and they ultimately captured the Robertson Cup with a 4-2 victory over the defending-champion Lone Star Brahmas in Blaine, Minnesota, on May 20, 2025. That season, Bismarck posted a 47-12-0 record to win the Central Division.
In the playoffs thus far, the Bobcats have outscored their opponents 27-18 through the first two rounds. Their path to a repeat begins with overcoming the Wings in the opening round, a team they have historically traded wins with during the regular season.
