‘Bodycam’ for overseas flights is universal… Our police buy at their own expense, why?

[앵커]

The horror of the collapse of the new apartment building in Gwangju was seen through the body cam of a firefighter. The body cam that captures the scene vividly is used by police abroad a lot, but it is said that the situation is different with the police in Korea. People who need it are buying it with their own money and using it.

Reporter Song Woo-young covered the reason.

A pile of collapsed rebar is scattered at the site of an apartment accident.

The gruesome appearance of the scene, which was confirmed with a search dog, was captured on the body cam worn by the firefighters.

The body cam, which records vivid scenes and leaves evidence, is also actively used by police in the United States and the United Kingdom.

In Los Angeles, USA, a girl was killed by a police gunshot last month.

As soon as the rioting suspect was found, the police opened fire on the bodycam.

Eventually, one of them pierced a nearby wall and pierced the chest of a 14-year-old girl in a dressing room.

In Korea, police bodycam pilot projects were started in some areas in 2015.

However, it was neglected due to its low battery capacity and frequent breakdowns, and the business ended last year.

Currently, the police are using commercially available body cams according to their needs.

In order for our police to determine whether the on-site response was appropriate and to secure accurate evidence, there are constant voices calling for the introduction of body cams.
