New Delhi: The Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has asked the Central Government to provide a booster dose of vaccine against Kovid to those aged 40 years and above. INSACOG, a consortium of various laboratories and research institutes in India, is continuously monitoring the genetic variation of coronavirus.
While the Omicron variant of Kovid is a matter of concern, the consortium recommends that booster doses be guaranteed to those over 40 years of age. Only two Omicon cases have been reported in India so far. The INACOG also demanded that all those who have not yet been vaccinated be vaccinated immediately and that high-risk individuals be considered first when giving a booster dose.
The antibodies obtained from the vaccine may not be effective against omicron, but may reduce the severity of the disease, the organization said in its weekly bulletin. The US and UK have announced booster iodos for certain age groups. Preliminary evidence from Omikron suggests that people with the disease are more likely to have a recurrence.
One of those who confirmed the disease was a doctor in Bangalore who took two doses of the vaccine. Another infected person was a South African national who came to India with a negative Kovid report.
