Brain aneurysm surgery Min Byung-hun, abruptly retired… “Dedicated to treatment”

Lotte Giants outfielder Min Byung-hun (34), who underwent brain aneurysm surgery in January this year, announced his sudden retirement.

Lotte announced on the 26th that “Byung-Hun Min, who had recently been struggling with whether to continue his active duty or whether to retire, has finally decided to retire.”

Min Byung-hun underwent brain aneurysm surgery in January. Min Byung-hun, who first discovered an abnormality in 2019 and followed up with regular check-ups, was admitted to the operating table after the 2020 season ended after a close examination revealed that surgery was necessary.

He returned to the first team at the end of May and played 14 games in the regular league this year, but after being excluded from the first team entry on August 31, he did not play in the first team as well as the Futures (2nd team) league.

The Lotte club explained, “Byung-Hun Min plans to focus on treatment after retirement.”

Min Byung-hun said, “I was happy to be able to spend the end of my career at Lotte. I wanted to be a little more helpful to the club, but it’s a shame.”

Min Byung-hun, who wore the Doosan Bears uniform as the 14th overall pick in the 2nd round in 2006, played for Doosan until 2017 and played a leading role in Doosan’s winning Korean Series in 2015 and 2016.

Min Byung-hun wore the Lotte uniform as a free agent (FA) after the 2017 season. During his four seasons with Lotte, he played 342 games and hit a batting average of 0.286, 28 homers and 134 RBIs. Min Byung-hun, who played in 1438 professional games, batted 0.295 with 99 home runs and 578 RBIs.
