Tokyo: Football hosts Japan and defending champions Brazil. Brazil reached the semi-finals with a goalless draw against Egypt. Mathias Cunha scored Brazil’s winning goal in the 37th minute.
The hosts beat New Zealand in a penalty shootout to advance to the semi – finals. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation time and overtime. Japan won the shootout 4-2.
Spain also reached the semifinals, beating Ivory Coast. Rafa Mir’s hat-trick gave Spain a 5-2 victory in a match that lasted until extra time. Ivory Coast took the lead in the 10th minute through Eric Belle. However, in the 30th minute, Spa Spain hit back through Danny Olmo. Max Gradel gave Ivory Coast the lead again in the 90th minute. But Rafa Mir found the back of the net in injury time for Spain, who did not give up. The match ended in a 2-2 draw in regulation time. With this the match was extended to extra time. In extra time, Spain went into form with three goals.
In the semi-finals, Spain will face Japan. The winners of the South Korea-Mexico match will face Brazil in the semi-finals.
