Brazil’s Neymar, substituted with an ankle injury, cries on the bench

Brazil won the first leg of the Group G match between Brazil and Serbia in Lusail, Qatar on the 25th at 4:00am (Korea time), but striker Neymar was replaced with an ankle injury and was seen shedding tears on the bench.

Brazil won 2-0 on this day, but Neymar was substituted in the 79th minute of the match after injuring his ankle due to a heavy tackle from Serbia in the second half, and was sitting on the bench with ice on his ankle.

Even before the last tackle during the game, he was tackled several times and limped off the field with a scowl of pain.

Neymar continued to cry, pulling his shirt over his head, complaining of pain as doctors treated his ankle, which had been dislocated with minutes remaining in the match. Then, limping with a swollen ankle, he made his way to the locker room.

Brazilian doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said Neymar’s condition needed further examination, although he had not confirmed the extent of the ankle injury. To Brazilian media, “We have to examine Neymar’s reaction. First of all, it is treated, but it must be evaluated with patience. It is too early to say anything now. We have to watch the progress,” he said.

Neymar has suffered multiple injuries since the 2018 World Cup, but returned to form against Qatar. During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he seriously injured his back in the semi-final against Colombia, the game was stopped and he was sent off lying on a stretcher.

Neymar, who is 30 years old, continues to attract attention as a starter for the Brazilian national team, which is favorite to win the World Cup in Qatar.

He helped Brazil’s Seleção (national team) win the 2013 Confederations Cup International Football Competition (an intercontinental championship game) and contributed to winning its first gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics.

With 75 goals for the national team, Neymar is two points off the number of goals scored by Pelé.
