Regarding the view that it will not be easy for Bank of Korea Governor Lee Ju-yeol to make a decision to raise the base rate in February ahead of next year’s presidential election on the 25th, he said, “Basically, the base rate is decided by looking at the financial and economic situation, but taking into account political issues and schedules. “It is not desirable to link it to the political schedule or the term of the governor,” he said.

Governor Lee said this at a press conference on the same day after the Monetary Policy Committee decided to raise the base interest rate by 0.25 percentage points from the current 0.75% per annum to 1.0% per annum.
