Britain undecided on whether to boycott China Olympics Prime Minister Johnson opposes

The UK has not yet decided whether or not to diplomatically boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics, scheduled for February next year. It was also revealed that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is openly opposed to a diplomatic boycott.

A spokesperson for the British Prime Minister’s Office said at a briefing today, according to Reuters.

“At this time, no decision has been made on the representative of the government at the Olympics,” he said.

Earlier, the British daily The Times reported that ‘active discussions’ were underway within the British government regarding a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. The Times reported that Prime Minister Johnson was in a relatively cautious position. Earlier, at a press conference on the 18th, US President Joe Biden replied, “We are considering whether to consider a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics.” .

A diplomatic boycott of the Olympics means that the athletes are sent, but not the delegation made up of government or political figures.

The United States and Britain are fiddling with diplomatic boycott cards as a way to express international concerns about human rights violations in Xinjiang.

A spokesperson for the British Prime Minister’s Office added: “We will continue to cry out when we see human rights violations, including the situation in China.”
