On the 25th, the amendment to the Military Service Act, which allows the popular culture and arts to replace military service with volunteer work instead of military service, was put on hold by the National Assembly’s National Defense Committee bill subcommittee on the 25th.
In the review of the amendment bill that day, some members argued that the special opportunity for military service should be given in consideration of the huge economic ripple effect caused by BTS.
However, it is known that a majority of the opinions were that further discussion was necessary in consideration of the public sentiment sensitive to military service and the sense of loss of other young people.
In this regard, the Ministry of National Defense said, “In principle, it is necessary to be cautious about expanding the (alternative service) of arts and sports personnel.”
