Burundi Eco Bujumbura: Car parks in poor condition

Drivers and passengers warn that the car parks of the Ngagara II market known as Cotebu, Musaga and the city center are in a sorry state.

The car parks of the economic capital are in an incredible state of defect. In a visit made on Monday January 23, 2023 by a reporter from Burundi Eco to the car park located in the city center where remunerated transport vehicles such as Coaster type vehicles and Hiace type vehicles are parked, it seems that this car park is almost forgotten by the authorities. It is littered with potholes from upstream to downstream.

And the situation gets worse when it rains. Passengers wade through rainwater mixed with mud. It is not a place that deserves to be in the center of the economic capital. If it does not rain, the dust becomes invasive.

The same ordeal can be seen in the car parks of Musaga and the market of Ngagara II commonly called Cotebu. If it rains, those who wear nice clothes bear the brunt. Rainwater mixed with mud marred them.

Drivers and passengers deplore this ordeal. “Sometimes we drop customers in puddles because we have no other choice,” they lament. They say they often manage not to put them in these puddles. And that can often cause us accidents.

The state of these car parks stains the image of the country

These drivers wonder why the State does not rehabilitate these car parks, because they defile the image of the country.

In addition, the owners of these vehicles regularly pay parking fees. For example, a Coaster type bus pays 30 thousand FBu per month and a mini Hiace type bus pays 21 thousand FBu per month.

On this theme, the mayor of the city of Bujumbura Jimmy Hatungimana specifies that he is aware of the poor condition of the parking lots in the town hall of Bujumbura. He points out that the Cotebu car park belongs to a certain Taruk, owner of Interpetrol. According to him, there are plans to install a service station there and erect a new car park just behind the said market.
