Singer Jeon Hyosung, a former member of the group Secret, made a statement regarding dating violence, and netizens are arguing over it.

On the 25th, on the official YouTube channel of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, a video titled ‘Hyosung Jeon hopes that the generous gaze on dating violence will disappear’ was posted.

Hyosung Jeon said in a public video, “I came to know a lot about gender violence while watching the news.”

He said, “I thought that (dating violence) was an ambiguous issue on the borderline of whether it was a crime or love. It made me think, ‘This is definitely a crime,'” he said.

He continued, “Because of the generous atmosphere, the cause of the crime can be found in the victim. He pointed out, “It is absolutely the perpetrator’s fault that it is a crime, but I think that it is not right because you have to receive unnecessary gazes like ‘The reason that the crime happened is because of you’.”

He continued, “Isn’t there a lot of cases where the perpetrators try to make up for their own deficiencies in others? It seems that there are many cases where they do not even know that there is a deficiency.” As a solution, he said, “I learn while attending school, but I do not learn how to speak properly or how to hurt less. I hope that practical solutions that can be learned and consulted about such issues are actively implemented in society.”

Finally, Hyosung Jeon said, “When it gets dark, whenever I go home, I always think, ‘Can I live safely today?’ I think a society in which we have the freedom to part at any time is a safe society.”

Since then, Hyosung Jun’s remarks have emerged as a ‘hot potato’ as they were shared on male-oriented online communities such as Efem Korea and MLB Park.

The netizens in the community are criticizing Jun Hyosung’s remarks, such as “Is it a paranoia of victimization?”, “What are you saying, Korea is the safest place in the world”, “Is it popular with men and now she switched to feminism?”

On the other hand, some netizens said, “Hyosung Jun’s words that she feels as a woman are true”, “Dating violence is a crime”, and “Hyosung Jeon said the right thing. Applause for courage!” reacted, etc.

In addition, in the aspect that escalated into a gender conflict, others expressed their views toward the leisure department, saying, “Are you encouraging conflict?”
