Canada announces Indo-Pacific Strategy targeting China

Canada announced an Indo-Pacific Strategy on the 27th and announced that it would strengthen military and cyber security in the region.

Canada released a 26-page Indo-Pacific Strategy on the same day, and while working with China to some extent, highlighted China’s growing destructive power.

Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy report describes China as an “increasingly destructive world power” and says Canada’s approach is shaped “by a realistic assessment of China today.”

“In areas where there is clear disagreement, we will challenge China,” he said.

“We will engage in diplomacy because we believe that diplomacy is strength,” said Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie. “At the same time, we will be firm.” “This is why we now have a very transparent plan to work with China,” he added.

China was mentioned more than 50 times in this Indo-Pacific Strategy report.

The Indo-Pacific Strategy report went on to say that the law will be reviewed and amended to ensure decisive action “when investments by state-owned enterprises and foreign organizations threaten national security, including critical mine supply chains.”

He also said it would enhance regional naval forces and “enhance our military and intelligence engagement capabilities as a means of reducing coercive actions and threats to regional security.” At the same time, he announced that he would spend about 1.7 billion US dollars to improve military and cyber security.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian refuted that Canada’s new Indo-Pacific strategy “exaggerates and speculates on the so-called threat from China, and is full of ideological bias, including baseless accusations and attacks on China.”

He added that China strongly opposes this and has already expressed its strict stance to Canada.
