Kim Hyun-sook, candidacy for the Minister of Gender Equality and Family, said, “The cause of the people’s anger was that the Ministry of Recreation, as the ministry, did not play its role in responding to power-type sexual crimes such as the heads of local governments.”

At a personnel hearing held at the National Assembly’s Gender Equality and Family Committee on the 11th, candidate Kim answered the question of Lee Yang-soo, a member of the People’s Power, who asked the reason for the high public opinion on the abolition of ministries, saying, “People are outraged because they failed to do their job as a competent ministry that should actively respond to power-based sex crimes of local government heads from the Democratic Party. I think there was,” he said.

In addition, when asked about how to deal with power-type sex crimes, he said, “I think we need a real hotline.” He explained, “(Currently), it is a system that is difficult for subordinates to appeal when the head of the highest local government commits a sex crime.”

Candidate Kim then said, “We will create a hotline under the Minister of Leisure to make a secret call.
